I agree that Gen X are happy to keep nihilism on the table — nothing really matters. I think that it right. Narratives are controlled by the powerful. Why is there no news of 25,000 people who die everyday from world hunger? What is the meaning of crocodile tears over this? However, I believe their ethical position is virtue ethics — what matters is who I choose to make myself, my character, friendships and my family. What you see in 'The Good Place' written by a Gen X-er. I agree that Millenials were brought up by analogue Boomers to succeed in a digital world that no longer exists.
